Mosquito Control and Mosquito Extermination
While many get excited at the idea of summertime being upon us, they probably aren’t thinking about what comes with it, mosquitoes. Mosquito season will typically start in the late spring and hit its peak during the summer. While mosquitoes are extremely annoying, they are more dangerous for the diseases they carry more than anything. The most common of these being Zika virus, West Nile, and Malaria.
A pond in your area may be cute for the view, but during the summer it serves as the perfect nesting ground for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes will use any standing water to lay their eggs in, which can include bird-baths, pools, or cups that may have been forgotten outside. However, having a pond in the area will provide a source for more mosquitoes to nest, meaning a higher concentration in that area.
Even with reducing possible nesting grounds in the area, mosquitoes can still be found buzzing about. Many cities with high mosquito populations have mosquito trucks provided, which will drive by spraying a pesticide to kill mosquitoes in the area. If your city does not have this, however, you can take other approaches to protect yourself from mosquito bites. Things such as repellent sprays and netting will not kill the mosquitoes but provide protection from their bites. You should always keep young children indoors during the evening, when mosquitoes are most active.
While you can also use your own pesticides to eliminate mosquitoes, you should contact your county beforehand to figure out if they spray pesticides in your area and which ones.
