Articles in this series:
Birds can commonly be found everywhere across the entire world, people birdwatch for them and enjoy seeing the different types of birds in their area; however, they are a huge nuisance when they are near your home. Birds will make their nests in trees near your home or even sometimes on your. They also make a habit of pooping where they would like, rooftop or in your vents, which can be a problem when they have their young in their nests as they have a tendency to become more aggressive to protect their babies. Birds also have a bad habit of pooping wherever they would like, which is not only disgusting but also incredibly messy. Often, when birds move onto someone’s property people will attempt to get rid of them, and are surprised to find that any bird species are protected in different states. You should try to identify what species of bird you are dealing with, as it can potentially be illegal to remove them. Should you have any questions about what type of bird you’re dealing with and how to approach it, you should contact your local wildlife agency to gather more information.
There are a few different ways that you can go about bird removal, however your best bet is going to be repelling the birds before it can even become an issue. While there are many different bird repellents out there that can help to keep birds away, you can also look into more permanent methods that may be more effective. One of the best methods for this are electric deterrents, they send a shock through the bird’s feet as they are attempting to land. Not to kill them or cause any lingering effects, but just enough to keep them from wanting to land on your home. For those with a barrel tile roofs, birds may even try to build nests inside of the many holes that are left open between the barrels. You can prevent this by installing bird guard or bird netting, which are put inside the tiles to keep the birds from being able to build their nests inside. If you know that you are having a bird issue, you may also want to eliminate anything in your yard that may tempt birds to come investigate. Things such as food sources and bird feeders should be removed.
If you currently have an issue with birds already nesting on your property, you can try to catch the nest before their are any eggs in it and hand remove it. However, once the eggs are laid, you will not be able to get close to the nest as the mother will become very aggressive. You can try to set up fake predatory birds to attempt to scare the birds away. If you are in need of any additional assistance, you can always contact a local wildlife removal specialist at any point in the process to help.
